The Protector
Introduction
The protector is an animated short about an ancient mechanical being that is reanimated to protect the famous forge it was created in. Set in a medieval fantasy world based upon northern England, the short shows the being re awakening after thousands of years of sitting dormant.
Concept
The beginning of the short shows a robin hopping along the ground, in the background out of focus is the Penshaw monument, in this fiction, the monument is a forge but it is also a real place protected by the national trust. Once the robin hops off camera the focus then shifts to the monument as the foreground blurs the distant monument becomes the focus. The camera will then switch to an aerial view of the monument as it pans around from the forested side of the top of the hill to the banked side of the monument sow the steps leading towards it.
The camera is now inside the monument, it is focused on a large mechanical figure sitting against one of the gigantic pillars of the monument lit by feint glowing blue crystals in overhead lamps, the camera pans from right to left shows heaps of abandoned forging tools, a huge fire pit in the middle of the room, a flawless anvil atop a tree trunk and various types of hammers litter the area, some of the pillars of the monument are also strewn with racks of swords
Next the camera switches to a close up view of underneath the chest plating of the Mech, A floating crystal like structure in the centre of the chest beings to rotate and glow, the speed accelerates as the brightness increases.
The Mech then stands up to reveal itself lit from the inside it movies its joints to become reacquainted with their orientation after such a long slumber. It then walks heavily to the middle of the open topped monument and looks up to the stars, It bends its knees and prepares to jump while its head focuses on the open top of the monument, it is far to large to pass between the pillars.
The Mech then jumps, launching itself from the monument and into the air, the camera changes to an outside view as the Mech crashes down shaking the camera and throwing mud and debris up into the air, it lingers as the dusts settles and then stand sand walks heavily again towards the camera before it cuts to black.
Technical
The short will be a 3d animation produced in 3ds max that adheres to a game industry standard of quality. The trailer will play to a soundtrack as well as having many added sound effects to give the animation more realism and believability.
